POSTCARD FROM THE FIELD: Sediment Sampling in the Elbe River

In the series ‘Postcards from the field’, researchers from the mareXtreme joint projects share insights from their ‘field work’.

Postcard back site with the following text: Dear mareXtreme colleagues and everyone interested, As part of ElbeXtreme, our scientific team has successfully completed a targeted sediment sampling campaign in the lower Elbe River region, Germany. The sampling is a key part of our ongoing research project aimed at supporting the simulation and investigation of sediment dynamics, pollutant transport, and related environmental processes under extreme event conditions. Three sites were strategically selected for this sampling campaign (see map), which represent typical hydrodynamic and sedimentary environments. The collected samples will undergo detailed laboratory analysis to support model development and simulation studies. Results from this research will enhance scientific understanding of how extreme events affect estuarine systems and provide valuable insights for future environmental risk assessments and management strategies. We will report back to you soon again!
