Groups vs Forum

In our mareXtreme community space, Groups and the Forum offer similar functions but differ in structure and specific use cases.

In summary:

  • Groups = Smaller, closer-knit communities with customizable interactions and more privacy: ECS, EWS, Modellers, Data, Participation,...

  • Forum = Larger, open discussions, often with broader topics concerning everyone

Wix Groups

  • Purpose: Wix Groups is designed for community building and group interactions. It connects small or thematically focused groups of users.

  • Features:

    • Members can create groups based on shared interests.

    • Group members can share posts, comment, and interact with one another.

    • It’s geared toward managing smaller, tighter-knit communities, with options to assign administrators and moderators.

    • Groups often have specific privacy settings (e.g., private vs. public groups).

    • Ideal for focused, intimate conversations or working groups.

Wix Forum

  • Purpose: Wix Forum is more like a traditional internet forum, where communication happens in public threads organized by different categories.

  • Features:

    • A forum consists of multiple categories where discussions on various topics can take place.

    • Users can create topics, post replies, and engage in discussions.

    • The interactions are more topic-based and less focused on the intimacy of the community.

    • It’s great for fostering broad discussions where posts are visible to everyone.

    • Forums typically don't have closed groups or private discussions.

Differences in Usage:

  • Target Audience:

    • Groups are suitable for specific, focused communities with more social interaction.

    • Forum is better for broad discussions, where the focus is on the exchange of information and opinions.

  • Interaction:

    • Groups allow for more intense interaction among members, almost like a social network feature.

    • Forum is more structured for public discussions, where posts are accessible to all users.
